Broken Wings: A Poem

This is a poem on a topic very close to my heart – namely my friends. Enjoy.

Why, heaven,

when I asked you for a blessing,

did you send me angels with broken wings?

I do not complain, only,

I do not have the touch to soothe their pain,

or the skills

to stitch them back together again, or

the power to take their grief away.

Why, heaven,

do you send me guardians, who

negate their own sorrows to comfort mine?

Gracious beings, who, in my struggles,

forget their own; only,

I do not know how to help them,

or what words to say

to save them, or

how my troubles affect them.

Why, heaven,

do you send me those I least know

how to comfort?

I love them dearly,

only,

I do not know how to tell them,

do not have

the powers to help them, do not

know how to save them.

Why, heaven,

do you send me angels

with broken wings?
