The Illusion of Schooling: A Poem

Sigh. School starts again tomorrow and it’s full on exam revision from then onwards. Still going to write everyday though – it’s my favourite form of procrastination!

This is a little piece I wrote this evening in preparation for school, which I hope you enjoy.

It is a dull, grey void,

Which renders obsolete the fruit of thought,

Coats creativity in a thick coat

Of dust,

And steals sparkles from eyes,

Using their brightness to fuel the fire

That turns the untameable

To ashes;

Solemn lines of uniforms that march through time

On a journey to a mystic land never explained;

That they call life, even as

They stain it with irremovable

Pain of trying to confirm with an ideal

That cannot be attained.
