Thin Ice: A Poem

Hi there! Please enjoy this poem that I wrote this evening. I’m away camping again this weekend, so won’t be able to post, but I’ll be back again Monday!

You’re standing on thin ice, watching

Cracks splintering away, knowing

That if you stay in one place

Then you’ll avoid

Falling;

But the pounding of your heart persuades you

To move your feet, anxiety

Pushing you along,

And you take a step in the direction

You think is best, only

To hear the grinding cracking of the ground,

To see the gaps widening

Beneath your shoes, threatening

Destruction; but,

Now,

There is no going back.
