A Prescription Of People: A Poem

bonding-1985863__480

She takes her people in small doses, not exceeding

The prescribed number a day; if an overdose of people

Occurs accidentally, do not

Take any more; retire to

A quiet place, and wait for the people to vacate

Your system; helpful antidotes include

A book, a film, a TV show – imaginary people

Can counter the effects of an overdose of reality;

Remember that an overdose of people can have its side effects:

Fatigue, aches and pains, a persistent

Ringing in ones ears and a strong desire

To remain a hermit forever in a secluded cave;

These will pass, in time, and remember just

To take your people

In small doses.
