Hi there! Uni has just started back up so I’m currently sorting out fitting back into that kind of routine, hence the lateness of this post, and I think I missed a couple last week. I’ll be back on top of things very soon!
This is a poem I wrote when I was feeling a bit annoyed and salty about DMs I was getting on Instagram asking me to submit work for anthologies that offered no reimbursement – and these weren’t competitions or well known journals, or even people who had big followings on Instagram – just random people wanting me to write for free so that they could make money off of selling these anthologies. So here’s my salty poem about that.
Everyone wants my words for free;
Submit to me, my magazine,
My online journal, free to read -
I'm afraid we cannot reimburse
at this time.
But don't worry, I'll like and share,
I'll get your name, your brand
Out there for the world to see,
So that you get more opportunities
To write for free.
So there you have it. On that note, please do like and share if you can as I am trying to get more attention for my work – but if you’re going to offer me an opportunity to appear in an Instagram anthology, you can move right along.
If you have any thoughts on this piece, please let me know in the comments!
